WANDERLUST: The True Definition

Nowadays it seems as if every young adult possesses the desire to travel the world. They constantly post pictures of faraway places, only in hopes of one day being able to visit and snap a few pictures of their own to upload to social media. Hordes of teenagers caption their posts with one well-meaning, yet over-used word: wanderlust.

But what does wanderlust even mean?

According to Urban Dictionary user Pablo_, it is:

Described above is the condition which many people believe they endure- a serious case of wanderlust.  In reality, there are two distinct groups of people. Those who merely talk of travel and never accomplish it and those who work to make their dreams happen. Both have aspirations of exploring the world, but most young people suppress their itch for travel as they grow older, and it is shoved into a place where all other dreams go.  Their long-forgotten goal is strangled by “the norms of society” until it no longer exists.  This may be possible for some, but for others with the true and incurable case of wanderlust, they have no choice but to embrace this travel itch and pursue a nomadic lifestyle by whatever means necessary.

Now, this is where Shaye and I fall.

We are currently trying to escape the world that our generation is caught in.
A world of all-consuming technology and minuscule attention spans.
A world of daydreaming kids with no motive to pursue a goal.
A world of shiny screens that replace a window seat view, and
a world where the Internet leaves no room for the imagination.

Although our deteriorating ability to live in the moment is unsurprising, it does not make it any less sad.  Our generation’s story is seen and accepted by people who grew up in a time where dreams were achievable with hard work and motivation.

Our goal is to encourage and empower like-minded people with the truest form of wanderlust to chase after our common dreams of travel and exploration. We will approach every corner of the earth with open eyes and squeeze out every drop of this life we were given. We vow to fall in love with cultures, eat exotic cuisine, and take thousands of footsteps and pictures along the way.  Most importantly, we will try to show people the beauty of our world and embrace our unconditional desire to explore.
